A weekly wrap-up of news, issues and current affairs from the Pacific. The programme is broadcast nationwide every Saturday evening on Radio New Zealand National and is produced by the newsroom of Radio New Zealand International. The following rundown is supplied from the broadcaster’s news system:

1. Nominations for next month's elections in Tonga are in and the signs are that this poll will be markedly different from the last one.

2. The Fiji Labour Party leader [i.e. Mahendra Chaudhry] says the Auditor General's report into government spending over the last seven years details blatant financial mismanagement and breaches of law.

3. The International Criminal Court has been asked to investigate whether the Australian government has committed crimes of humanity over its treatment of asylum seekers.

4. Police in Vanuatu enforced an eviction order this week against more than 300 people living illegally near Port Vila's airport

5. Fiji's media industry development authority has come under criticism for not condemning a breach of the Electoral Decree by the public broadcaster.

6. A charity backed by New Zealand unions [i.e. UnionAid] is helping Fiji workers learn about their rights as weakened Fiji unions struggle with restrictive decrees.

7. There are calls for more to be done to help provide for people suffering from mental health issues in Papua New Guinea's Bougainville.

8. Niue's High Commissioner to New Zealand is warning her country stands to lose its unique arts and crafts traditions unless steps are taken to preserve them.
