A weekly wrap-up of news, issues and current affairs from the Pacific. The programme is broadcast nationwide every Saturday evening on Radio New Zealand National and is produced by the newsroom of Radio New Zealand International. The following rundown is supplied from the broadcaster’s news system:

1. Senior judicial figures from Fiji have told a United Nations gathering it is addressing concerns about police brutality.

2. Norfolk Island's Minister of Cultural Heritage [i.e. Robin Adams] says the people of Pitcairn Island, who make up 47 percent of the population, fear what will happen to their culture if Australia takes away its rights to self government.

3. A Fijian academic says New Zealand and Australia still have a strong role to play in the Pacific Islands Forum and that includes standing up to Fiji when necessary.

4. A Solomon Islands chief [i.e Esau Foofafimae Kekeubata] from the East Kwaio region in Malaita Province is on a mission to save his traditions and culture from extinction.

5. An Australian human rights advocate [i.e. Daniel Webb] says he fears some asylum seekers on Nauru will agree to be resettled in Cambodia out of desperation.

6. An academic [i.e. Malakai Koloamatangi] says ructions in Tongan politics over the past four years may have contributed to a sharp fall in the number of candidates contesting next month's election.

7. The search is on for someone to compete with the New Zealand Football Ferns after they once again dominated the Oceania Football Confederation's showpiece tournament.
