A weekly wrap-up of news, issues and current affairs from the Pacific. The programme is broadcast nationwide every Saturday evening on Radio New Zealand National and is produced by the newsroom of Radio New Zealand International. The following rundown is supplied from the broadcaster’s news system:

1. Nauru police say that 183 refugees arrested after protests on Wednesday were released from custody last night and are on bail.

2. A refugee advocate says the nearly 200 refugees arrested this week on Nauru have told harrowing stories of robbery, mistreatment and appalling jail conditions since their release.

3. There has been a muted reaction so far to allegations the New Zealand government is carrying out mass surveillance on its Pacific neighbours.

4. The West Papuan representative body applying for membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group says it always expected Indonesia's government to increase efforts to counter the application.

5. The Fijian opposition says Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama's speech to the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday was inaccurate, simplistic and covered up the true predicaments of Indigenous Fijians.

6. A Papua New Guinea's anti-corruption NGO has hosted a so-called "Birthday Bash" to mark the anniversary of non-action over a report into a series of major fraud cases.

7. Fisheries experts from around the Pacific met this week in New Caledonia to co-ordinate community based programmes for managing the region's coastal fisheries.
