U.N. Album #14. 04/01/1950
Report on the granting of independence from the Netherlands to the United States of Indonesia. Coverage includes statements from Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Trygve Lie comments on problems of the last fifty years and the efforts the United Nations to solve them. The
Director General of W.H.O., Dr Brock Chisholm speaks from Geneva about the World Health Organisation and its work to raise standards of living by providing aid against disease. Mr Geoffrey Johnson-Smith, part of a two man debating team from Oxford University, England who ended their tour of 45 universities in 60 days with a visit to Lake Success, New York. In an interview Mr Johnson-Smith says the aim of their tour was to win friends over debates and remove misconceptions about the younger generation from both countries.

U.N. Album #15. Memo from Lake Success. 04/01/1950
Report on the granting of independence from the Netherlands to the United States of Indonesia. Reporter George Ivan Smith describes the scene in the Netherlands as sovereignty is transferred back to Indonesia in a ceremony and signing of the protocol at the Palace. After shaking hands with the Minister of Indonesia, Mr Hatta, Queen Julianna's speech is broadcast. Indonesia was granted independence, to operate with the Netherlands in an equal partnership following intervention from the United Nations Security Council, an intervention based on human rights and peace. Reporter Alistair Taylor provides a cabled account of the scene from Jakarta, "The sky is overcast... but this hasn't slowed the mass elation...", the flag of the Netherlands is lowered and the flag of the United States of Indonesia raised.

Director of the U.N.'s Trusteeship Division, Dr Ralph Bunche speaks for the need for peace and the necessity to change human attitudes of survival because "no mechanical device... can serve to save mankind from itself". New Zealand Broadcasting Service intern James Boswell reports on his visit, praises the work of the U.N. and links its work back home to New Zealanders. Replay of Dr V. Duckworth-Barker's short-wave dispatch from a peace mission of the Secretary General Mr.Trygve Lie to London. General Carlos P. Romulo responds after call for expulsion of communist block countries, he calls for unity in U.N.

U.N. Album #33. Memo from Lake Success. 13/05/1950
The story of the United Nations Trusteeship Council. The council takes responsibility for fostering democracy and development to assure peaceful change in the evolution from colonial status to full freedom. Includes comments from Mr R.K. Gardener resident of West Africa and part of a speech from Sir Carl Berendson, New Zealand's representative on the council. New Guinea is under the Trusteeship of Australia, Mr. J.H. Halligan their representative talks with Sir Alan Burns about how U.N. news broadcasts in pigeon English play a part in communicating to the local people. A young Western Samoan student, Niko Apa talks about a new radio station and the kinds of programmes being broadcast across the airwaves.

U.N. Album #36. Memo from Lake Success.
The work of the U.N. International Refugee Organization U.N.I.R.O. who have assisted in the transportation, housing, training and education of around 700 000 war refugees. Includes interviews with employers, audio of an English lesson, difficulties in finding new homes for refugees, the impending closure of the U.N.I.R.O. and the need to find homes for the remaining 300 000 refugees. Michael [De Sherbenan] reports from an immigrant ship soon to arrive in New York whilst Geoff Sparks describes the scene from New York ‘s shoreline.

Sir Carl Berendsen is described as one of the U.N.'s most delightful speakers makes a reply to a criticism of British Colonial Policy. He talks about his visit to Nigeria, meeting a native king with a Rolls-Royce, and finding a Karitane Hospital in the Nigerian jungle, doing work based on the ideals of Sir Truby King's Plunket Society in New Zealand. A delegation of six Native American Indian tribes from the U.S.A.- Canada border are at the U.N. to seek its assistance in dealing with complaints against the dishonouring treaties with the U.S.A., Canadian and Dutch governments. They claim that their independent sovereign status has been undermined and that their communal ethos will be destroyed in the competitive European culture and law.
