An inter-Faith service in memory of those killed in the Boxing Day Indian Ocean tsunami, held at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland and broadcast by Radio New Zealand live on National Radio, Awa Whanui Big River Radio in Dargaville, Radio Samoa in Auckland, Radio Tarana (Hindi station) in Auckland, Gold Rush 1440 in Central Otago and Classic Gold Radio. It was also broadcast on RNZI, and streamed live on its website. The commentary was by Geoff Robinson. The live broadcast began at approximately 27 minutes past one, Sunday afternoon 16 January 2005.
Welcome by the Right Reverend Te Kitohi Pikaahu (in Māori) and the Right Reverend Richard Randerson (in English).
Readings during the Service by the Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright, Haji Javed Malik of the Islamic Community Church, Pundit Sharda Nand Maharaj of the New Zealand Hindu Community and Ajahn Chandako, Abbot of the Auckland Theravada Buddhist Association. Prayers by Father Varghese Philip Idichandy of St Dionysius Indian Orthodox Church and Rabbi Michael Weisser.
Addresses by the prime minister Helen Clark and by Richard Randerson.
A minute's silence observed (and throughout NZ) at 1.59pm preceded by a bell ring (31'34" on the CDR).
The blessing delivered by the Most Reverend Denis Browne - president of the NZ Catholic Bishops' Conference. Service ends 66'10"
