The Bombing of Pearl Harbour - Before and After the Japanese Attack by Pte. D. S. Finlayson.

In this recording New Zealander David Spencer Finlayson gives a first-hand account of Pearl Harbour before and after the Japanese bombing on December 7th 1941.

Finlayson begins by describing Pearl Harbour in November 1941 when he visited ten days prior to the attack, with a group of New Zealand coast watchers who were on their way home after garrison duty on Fanning Island [now Tabuaeran, Kiribati].

He then goes on to give impressions of the day of the attack and its aftermath, which he says he gleaned from eye-witnesses and other reliable sources.

Finally, he describes the security measures put into place in and around Honolulu after the attack, including concerns about Japanese-American citizens.

[Before the war Finlayson was a reporter with the Otago Daily Times newspaper. He was killed in action near Faenza, Italy in November 1944.]
