In this recording, politician and author John A. Lee pays tribute to Robin Hyde (born Iris Wilkinson) - a New Zealand poet and author who published work from 1925 until she committed suicide in 1939.
Lee provides an overview of her life and discusses some of her work, including her World War I novel "Passport to Hell".
He pays tribute to her courage and quotes from her poem 'Defeat'.

He first met her when she was a young woman in the Press Gallery writing political articles for the Dominion newspaper.
He says "Passport to Hell' was her best novel in his opinion, but she had yet greater novels to write She wrote novels to get enough money to write verse.
He recounts a little of her trip to China and journey to London via China and Vladivostok.
He quotes from letters she wrote to him - Considers her a part of great achievement.
