Our Senior Secondary Schools - Christchurch Technical College.
This is the first in a series of 12 programmes, narrated by Fred Hyde, featuring interviews and scripted speeches, with some school music items. Each presents one of the prominent Christchurch secondary schools. This episode focuses on Christchurch Technical College, which was visited and interviews recorded late in 1957.
In part one, Fred Hyde introduces the programme; and the Principal, D. W. Lyall talks generally about the purpose of the technical college.
In part two, Lyall continues his talk; the college's art director, Mr Cameron, talks about the college's art collection; and the Head Girl Prefect, Miss Pascoe talks about her courses and aspirations.
In part three, the Head Boy Prefect, Spencer Meikle, talks about his interests, courses, and aspirations; the choir performs; three motor-engineering students discuss their three-week course; and Dr. Hanson shares his recollections of his career at the college.
In part four, Mr. Hanson continues; Mr. Buchan talks about his role as the college's vocational guidance officer, and the cadet corps.; a school band performs; Mr. Shad talks about the library; and Rodney Davis talks about his duties as the Head Boy Librarian.

In part six, an apprentice plumber Bruce Boyen [?] talks about the workshop course and his current project; Mrs. Stevenson talks about the woodwork course; Portia Booth and Claire Kern talk about the homecraft course; the choir sings a song; and R. H. Murray talks about extra-curricular activities.
In part seven, Mr Murray continues his talk; several students Rod McCall talk about the furniture-making course; Mr. Marsh talks about the joinery course and the training of apprentices; and several night-course students speak about their respective courses: Ron Sloos [?], engineering student; pharmacy student; Miss Chandhala [?] from Fiji.
In part eight, the night-course students continue talking; Len Lucas, industrial management student; Mrs Barter, dress-making student; Mr. Ingles, accountancy student talks about his aspirations; and the choir performs.
