This recording contains a series of extracts taken from successful school broadcasts between 1954-1964. These extracts were used in lecture demonstrations in all New Zealand teacher's colleges to help teachers in how to use the broadcasts. This training scheme began in 1958 and carried on until 1972 when NZBC lecturers were withdrawn. The extracts are as follows:
1) "Among the Fiji Islanders" from a Social Studies programme directed at 9-10 year olds. Broadcast on the 21st of July 1959.
2)"Tangier" from a Social Studies programme directed at 9-10 year olds. Broadcast during 1958.
3) "The Aborigines of Australia" from a Social Studies programme directed at 9-10 year olds. Broadcast on the 19th of August 1959.
4) "The Fox" from a nature study programme directed at 9-10 year olds. Written by Scott Kennedy and produced in the Wellington Drama Studios (Loan and Mercantile building) by John Allen, BBC Schools producer. Farmer - Roy Leywood, Boy - Stephen Whitehouse. Broadcast on the 7th of October 1958.
5) "Snipper Snapper" Literature programme for 5-6 year olds. Broadcast during 1958.
6) "Bell and the Telephone" Social Studies/Communications directed to 10-13 year olds. Broadcast on the 19th of November 1954.
7) "Instruments of the Orchestra - The Violin" Music appreciation for 10-13 year olds. Written and presented by James Roberston, the conductor of the National Orchestra, with Vincent Aspey, the violin soloist. It was broadcast on the 28th of May 1956.
8) "Laos" from a Current Affairs programme directed at 10-13 year olds. This extract was written and voiced by Doug Edwards, the veteran school broadcaster who contributed to programmes from 1935-1973. It was broadcast during 1972.
9) "Senior Singing Lesson" singing directed at 10-13 year olds. Teaching a round, conducted by Val Drew, the Music Lecturer at the Dunedin Teachers College and sung by children from Dunedin North Intermediate School. The accompanist was Fraser Morrison. It was produced by Jean Kirk-Burnand and broadcast during 1964.
