Checkpoint: Small Town Marketing Strategies.
Small towns and provincial cities are adopting aggressive marketing strategies to survive in the face of economic change, in an effort to hold population and to attract new jobs.
Tapanui town clerk, George Carson comments about what is being done in the town and the reasons why. Gloria Benstead, a partner in an Auckland clothing firm talks about setting up in Waipawa in the Hawkes Bay because of family connections, availability of labour, support from the local council and cheap rentals. She says making use of the local resources in regional New Zealand is much better than setting up somewhere like Fiji because of the more specialised line of clothing the company produces.
