The NZ Goverment has been accused of tricking the remote Pacific Island state of Tokelau
into signing away a quarter of its territory.

Tokelau, a NZ dependency about four thousand kilometres north-east of Wellington, is comprised of three tiny atolls - Fakaofo, Atafau and Nukunono.
In 1980, a fourth atoll, Swains Island was relinguished to the US in a treaty aimed at resolving overlapping maritime boundaries but some Tokelau leaders now claim they weren't aware they were giving up sovereignty.
The Tokelau Official Secretary, Casimilo Perez, has told Radio New Zealand's Pacific reporter Fraser Folster that Swains Island has recently emerged as a major issue to the Tokelau leadership.
