Nga Puna O Waiorea

Auckland Secondary School's Māori and Pacific Island's Cultural Festival.
In this programme featured is Nga Puna O Waiorea College.The group was tutored by Arklee Fong, Ngāti Whatua/Ngapuhi, Mina Pomare Nga Puhi/Te Rarawa, Milani Anae/ Samoa, Eric Te Okotai/ Cook Island, and Jack Te Moana/ Ngai Tuhoe.

This College has been active for the last four years. The name "Nga Puna O Waiorea" was established by the Ngāti Whatua tribe.
In earliers times, Western Springs was known to be a place where TUNA or EEL could easily be obtained for food. Te Waiorea is the name of the area where the College is situated and means "The Water Filled with Rea" Rea being a spieces of the tuna family.
This year's programmes was presented in the forms of a series of link items, which focus on the Treaty of Waitangi, depicting a historical journey of Māori people from the coming of the European and the Treaty to the expression of Te Tino Rangatiratanga, recognition of self initiative and ultimately self government.
There items are as follows:- WHAKAEKE ; Original composition by Ark Lee Fong which confirms how are past, and where we should be going in the future and that we must listen to the words of our ancestors and aldes to guide eu into the 21st century.
WHAIKORERO : by Raniera Barlow, makes reference to Papatuanuku the earth mother and Ranginui the Sky father, acknowledges the dead and gives possible reasons as to why Māori people must listen in order to survive.
WAIATA TAWHITO : Original composition by Ark Lee Fong, Mina Pomare and Malani Anae.
- An adaption of the 3 articles of the original Māori version of the Treaty of Waitangi, asks people to consider what the Treaty really means !!!
ACTION SONG : Namely, Whakapono, Tumanako, me Te Aroha. Faith, Hope and Love.
POI : "Wahine Motuhake" - Original composition by Mina Pomare and Eric Te Okotai.
Is the story of a father telling his daughter as he is about to leave to go to war, that she must value her Tipuna Wahine, as well as things of Tau Iwi, like education, that whilst the men are away she must become the backbone of her people.
HAKA : "Mauhere" Original composition by Ark Lee Fong. - Deplores the judicial system, and its implementation of the system, in regard to young male Māori Offenders.
WHAKAWATEA : Is a climax, dedicated to the work of our ancestors, inspired by the recent Māori performing Arts Festival in acknowledging the performers at this festival.
