shootings in New Caledonia, of two moderate Kanak leaders by a Kanak
separatist. The two killed were Jean-Marie Tjibaou, and Yeiwene Yeiwene.
Peter Verschaffelt reports the New Zealand government has expressed
regret at the news of the deaths. Tim Marshall reports on the French
