Magazine Programme about Pacific People.

The Tongan Community of Auckland converged upon the Massey Homestead at Mangere for a one day Festival of Arts and culture "Glory of Tonga". The festival was originally planned for October but was moved to coincide with the King's visit to New Zealand. The former home of a Prime Minister of New Zealand, William Massey the homestead is now the Mangere Community Cultural Centre. There was a huge crowd in attendance and about fifty different Tongan groups made up of choir and dancers where there to welcome their King. The King was also welcomed by many local body and Parliamentary representatives including former Prime Minister of New Zealand and MP for Mangere David Lange.

Waiata kinaki for all kaikōrero provided by the choir, singing an anthem composed by King Tupou II.

Kaikōrero: King Taufa'ahau Tupou. He talks about Tonga being a separate independent nation, but a member of the commonwealth and that New Zealand is its closest neighbour that many Tongans have migrated to New Zealand.
The King talks of rugby and Tongan soldiers and sailors in Bougainville and Papua New Guinea helping to keep peace. Very happy to be here at the festival.
