- kaikōrero: Elma Ma'ua.... Relationships in the late1900's between Western
Samoa and New Zealand were said to be confrontational. An incident that took
place were eight Samoans were shot down inclusive of a High Chief by New
Zealand Police was and still is, is known as....."Black Saturday".
This is still a bone of contention among many Samoans.

New Zealand historian Ian McGibbon says that the shootings were not pre-
meditated and presented a different interpretation of the incident.
