- Appointment of Vaiao Alaima to Current Affairs. -

The appointment of Vaiao Alailima Etevati to pioneer Polynesian programmes
in the current affairs section in Auckland is seen as a major break through by
the "Tangata atu Motu" - Pacific Peoples for their voice to be heard.

- Fanaura Kingston reading the Cook Island news in Cook Island Māori.

The Kenneth Adam broadcasting report published in1973 saw the Polynesian
contribution giving a varied future to radio......In part the report says that
programmes should focus on music, language, culture and the current concerns
of Māori and Polynesians, with some programmes in English, Māori and some
in the Island tongue.

Rev Leua Sio one of the many Polynesian leaders spoke of their apreciation to
Radio New Zealand on appointing Vaiao Alaima to the position and hoped that
he would be able to bring many aspects and views of his people and New
Zealand especially in their own Pacific languages.
Rev Sio speaks to his people in his mother tongue fa'a Samoa.

- Kaikōrero Vaiao Alaima talks with Selwyn about ideas that he has formulated
with regards to air time. Vaiao who is of Samoan descent talks about this
involvement and knowlege with other Polynesia peoples within their community.
