One of the most spectacular and most attention grabbing events which in
the United States during the past twelve months has favorably publisied the Māori people has been the exhibition of the 172 prized Māori artifacts or taonga has collectively as "Te Māori".

Te Māori opened in New York September 1984 at the world prestigous
Metropolitan Museum of Art, then moved to St.Louis. The exhibition later
opened at the MHD Young Museum of fine arts in San Francisco.
