Polynesian farewell to the Governor General Sir Arthur Porritt: [part 1 of 2]

A farewell function was held to farewell their excellencies, the Governor General Sir Arthur Porritt and Lady Porritt by the Polynesian groups of Wellington, in the Wellington Town Hall.

Groups taking part in the farewell function were from the islands of Tokelau, the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and the Māori people. As the official party entered they were accorded a traditional welcome by each participating group.

- Himene / Koutou katoa ra and karakia by Rev.Tawhao Tioke.
- Kaikōrero: Mr Purere Katene who spoke on behalf of all the groups. Kinakii /Karangatia ra / Tokelauan kinaki / Cook Island farewell chant.
Niue farewell / Samoan hymn.
- Māori party: He putiputi koe.
