Hawaikinui: The Voyaging Spirit

The revival of traditional Polynesian navigational skills has surfaced with the coming of the waka Hokule'a and the Hawaikinui to New Zealand, from Hawaii and Tahiti respectively.

Greg Whakataka Brightwell, with the help of friends in Tahiti, built the Hawaikinui in four years. Now that the journey is over, he spoke with Carol Greensmith about his next plans - to present to Māori a film documentary on the success of the construction of the waka, and a book.
