TE WAONUI-A-TANE: 1/6 prog.

An International hui on "Ethonobotany" ... nga mahi Māori o Te Waonui-a-Tane was held at the Te Rehua Marae in Christchurch. It has a five fold platform:
- to discuss ways of recording information on the traditionasl use of plants.
- to determine ways in which traditional evaluable plants can best be grown
- to find further ways on which plants can be used for traditinal cultural purposes
- to develop further traditinal uses to provide better food, fibre and medicine
- to improve the communication and to enhace scientists of the values placed on plants by indigenous peoples.

Much of the organisation of the hui fell on Dr. Warwick Harris, Director of the Botany Division, Dept. of Scientific and Industrial Research.
