MĀORI TOURISM ASSOCIATION : 1/2 prog's.

The inaugural General Meeting of the Māori Tourism Association was held in Rotorua in June of 1988 with keynote speakers and the elections of the "Board of Control"... this hui attracted high powered representation of individuals and groups many of whom were already working within the Tourist Industry.

Some saw the concept as a positive move, while others were rather spectical of the Associations role... A membership fee of $220 raised some eyebrows, while there was lobblying for places on the "Board".

John Keaney, Mayor of Rotorua took special interest in the Hui and his City has been involved with tourism for decades... His address was hard hitting and filled with sound advice.

- kaikōrero : John Keaney.
- kaikōrero : Neil Plimmer, General Manager NZ Tourist & Publicity, who also reads a message from the minister of Tourism Mr. Phil Goff.
- kaikōrero : Afionga Lupe Matasilaiwane, His Excellency, the High Commisioner for Western Samoa.
- kaikōrero : Koro Wetee, Minister of Māori Affairs... he refers back to what he said during the Hui Taumata 1884.

NB: Mr Wetere concludes his kōrero on ID: 7540 mpt / 5151.
