During the past four years, Rev Richard Buttle has been the Auckland City Missioner. Founded by the Anglican Church and operating since 1920, the Mission is now a seperately registered charity responsible for raising funds and determining the direction of the Mission's Services. Services include an emergency food programme including distribution of donated foods to other food banks in the Auckland region, three crisis-care centres, New Zealand's only residential centre for people living with HIV, a chaplaincy to the elderly, Auckland's only non-medical detoxification service for people with alcohol and drug addictions, and a residential assessment and therapeutic centre for children with post traumatic stress disorder. Richard's ministry includes services in Massachusetts USA, Chaplain of Christchurch Prison, and for twenty years, chaplain of Kings College. He retires from his present work in March next year. An international conference on adolescent health is underway in a remote aboriginal community in Cape York, far north Queensland, Australia. The event is being attended by Cape York youth and elders as well as first peoples from the United States, Canada, Hawaii, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Phillipines and New Zealand. The conference's title is "Bama Wudu Wudu Mara Mara" - "Rising above the waves of dispossesion". Potaka Maipi of Tainui / Taranaki descent, is attending the conference - he joins us now by satellite-phone from Cookstown, Cape York. Also comment from Teri-Anne Clark who is attending the conference. Teri-Anne is from the Manukau City Health specialising in Māori Sexual Health.
