Like other tourist attractions in the country, the Asian downturn has affected the Institute's visitor numbers but Bryan Hughes is confident that certain strategies which are being put into place will have a positive effect. Leaders from Bougainville and Papua New Guinea thrashed out a ceasefire agreement under the watchful gaze of delegates from Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand at Lincoln University near Christchurch on Friday.
NZ's Foreign Minister, Don McKinnon is credited for his work in bringing together the sides in the nine years of conflict. Mr McKinnon says the New Zealand led truce-monitoring group, the TMG, who have been on Bougainville since October also deserve credit. He singles out one of the TMG persons for particular praise saying she possesses "the Melanesian way". The person is Major Fiona Cassidy of Aupouri, who joins us now...
