Tofilau Eti Alesana, Interviewee
Maligi Evile, Interviewer

An interview by broadcaster Maligi Evile with Samoan Prime Minister, the Honourable Tofilau Eti Alesana.

The interview is in Samoan for the first 22 minutes and then in English. He talks about his meeting and discussions with New Zealand Prime Minister, Rt Hon Robert Muldoon, on immigration.

He talks about the New Zealand 30-day visa, which caused many Samoans difficulty as they were urged to overstay when on this visa, and then later were deported.

He says he asked to have this interview broadcast to the Samoan people in Samoan, to urge Samoans in New Zealand to come forward and register for New Zealand citizenship. They are able to retain dual citizenship with Samoa.
