Tairawhiti/ Ngāti Porou travel to the Island of Mauke to connect whanaungatanga with their Rarotonga relations from whom they/we come from.

Under discussion seems to be the whakapapa of Paikea who lived in this village before he journeyed by Whale to Aotearoa.

The researcher remembers the klate Henare te Ua telling her about a visit that a group of Ngāti Porou people visiting the Island of "Mauke" in Rarotonga to make contact with and learn our about our ancestor "Paikea".

History and whakapapa tells us that he landed at Rarotonga prior to his
arrival in Aotearoa, so for those elders from Te Tairawhiti that travelled to Rarotonga it was a way on connecting ourselves to our whanaunga in the Cook Island.

the researcher is sure that this is oneof those recordings,as Hēnare te Ua ws part of the group that travel to the cook Islands.
