"Song and Story of the Māori". Short Wave Radio Broadcast.
'A visit to the Cook Islands' prog 1
Narrated by Ulric Williams.
Songs and Chants of the Cook Island Māori.
This programme contains recordings made during a visit to the Cook Islands in August [1954] by the NZ Broadcasting Service and a mission led by the Minister of Island Territories.
First, a song of welcome by the students of Avarua School.
Ulric Williams describes the airstrip on Rarotonga and the surrounding countryside, shortly after landing on the island.
As it was a Sunday, they attended a church service or 'himene' and recorded 'uapo' or hymn singing.
