'Paakiwaha' 04/05/2009 - Monday 10am to Midday.
Paakiwaha is a weekly, lively, thought provoking and debate packed two hour current affairs program with a Māori perspective.
Paakiwaha is hosted by Willie Jackson (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou) and broadcast nationwide by Radio Waatea with funding from New Zealand On Air.
Greetings and programme rundown.

MICHAEL CULLEN: Former Deputy Prime Minister, 28 Year Parliamentarian and Former Treaty Minister talks with Willie about resigning and leaving Parliament last Thursday. He talks about some of the most damaging and challenging policies for Māori he has been associated with. Willie also asks why the Labour Party want to entrench the Māori Seats, the Foreshore and Seabed Bill and Customary Rights of Māori.
Michael finishes talking about where to from here.

MITA RIRINUI: Labour Party List MP for the Waiariki Seat talks with Willie about why Labour want to entrench the Māori Seats. Willie contends that this is a way to make up ground on the Māori Party but Mita says this has nothing to do with the Māori Party.

ROGER PIKIA: National Māori Strategist for AgResearch and Chair of the Māori Reference group on Climate Change.
Roger talks with Willie about when this Reference Group was formed and why.
This was formed because of Emissions and Carbon Trading with respect to Māori Forestry. Roger says the key focus at this stage is about Land Use Flexibility or Forest Offsetting to help make a contribution to the reduction of Emissions because of the Climate change and what they're very vigilant about is the disproportionate impact this will make upon Māori, a key concern which they have.

RON MARK: Major Ron Mark and former New Zealand First, list MP, tells Willie that he wants to run for Mayoralty for Carterton, a town he was brought up in.
Georgina Bryers, former Mayor of Carterton, says she would not stand if Ron runs for Mayor which he says was quite humbling for him.

MUSIC BREAK: Ruia Aperahama

PAUL TE AHO: Head Shepherd for Hereheretau Station which was first farmed in 1922 by the Māori Soldiers Trust which was set-up by Sir Apirana Ngata. The Station has made spectacular progress in the last three years and is a finalist in the Ahu Whenua, BNZ Māori Excellence in Farming Award.
Paul tells us about his 5000 acre Sheep and Beef Farm and Willie asks why he thinks it was chosen as a finalist.

DALE HUS BAND & DEIDRE BROWN: A pre-recorded interview from the "News Makers" programme on Radio Waatea.
Deidre Brown has just authored and launched her book called "From Fale to Wharenui and Beyond", which is about Māori Architecture and explores a vast array of Māori-designed structures and spaces with the influence of Christian and western influences.
Deidre shares her Architectural background and tells us about her previous books and what area's this new book covers.

DUNCAN GARNER: Qantas Media Award winning Political Editor, with a Weekly wrap-up of Politics. This week's subjects are Tony Ryall's handling of the Swine Flu, the Delegation of the Māori Party's visiting Fiji's Commodore frank Bainimarama, John Key's thinking on a Māori Seat on the Super City Council, and finally, Former Deputy Prime Minister, Michael Cullen, and his speech on leaving Parliament.

KEN LABAN: Lower Hutt Mayoral Candidate, Prominent Community Leader and Sports Analyst and Commentator, with a Weekly wrap-up of Sports.
This week they talk about the Super 14 results and touch on why the Auckland Blues are not as good as they should be, the makeup of the All Blacks, the disappointment of the Warriors League Team
