Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson (Hawaii) shares experiences, knowledge, and techniques on Navigation with the crew of Te Aurere, charting Tahiti (Marquesas Islands) to Hawai’i course. This Hui appears to be in preparation for the 1995 voyage between Tahiti and Hawai’i which included six waka from Hawai’i, Cook Islands and Aotearoa. These waka included Hōkūle’a (Hawai’i), Hawai’iloa (Hawai’i), Makali’i (Hawai’i), Te Au o Tonga (Cook Islands), Takitimu (Cook Islands) and Te Aurere (Aotearoa)

Te Aurere’s second long distance voyage from Tahiti, Hawaii, Rarotonga & Aotearoa, occurred between
March - November 1995

“The kaupapa of the voyage was to lift the tapu at the ancient marae of Taputapuatea, to be involved in the voyage Na 'Ohana Holo Moana (The Voyaging Familes of the Ocean) to test the next generation of Navigators.”
