New Zealand and other anti whaling nations have won their battle to extend the ban on commercial whaling for another year but Iceland today quit the International Whaling Commission and along with Japan and Norway is threatening to start hunting whales again regardless. Greenpeace has held a number of demonstrations this weekend to try to get recognition of this countries nuclear free stance.

The search is still on for a 63 year old dear stalker missing on Stewart Island since Thursday. More than 90 people, 3 boats and a helicopter are involved in the search.
