''Traditional art and culture is alive and thriving in the Pacific. For those in any doubt, Maori Television presents the glorious proof - highlights from the 10TH FESTIVAL OF PACIFIC ARTS 200.
Every four years since 1972, artists and culture groups from around the region have held festivals to share and celebrate their traditional heritage.
Originally set up in response to what was seen as an encroaching modern world, the most recent festival, held in Pago Pago, American Samoa, showed just how much the old ways continue to be held sacred and re-interpreted - amongst the people who belong to those ethnic groups .
Around 2000 artists from 22 countries and territories turned up to this festival, for a meeting of artistic minds from arts as diverse as performing arts groups, traditional and modern musicians, quilters, healers and ta moko artists, as well as representatives from the worlds of dance, theatre, and film.'' www.maoritelevision.com; 8/12/2008
