ARMED FORCES...DEFENCE TALKS IN FIJI: Air Vice Marshall Neville, chief air staff of New Zealand Armed Forces and others confer with the Governor of Fiji. New Zealand still maintains an air base in Fiji and the defence of the island is important to this country.

OTAGO...NZ SHEEP DOG CHAMPIONSHIPS: Sheep dogs and their owners display their skill and co-operation at the national trials held in Otago.

REHABILITATION...KIWI RETURNS FROM OVERSEAS TRAINING: Rehabilitation grants help many New Zealanders carry on their musical studies. This has been the case with Tony Rex of the Kiwi Concert Party, who recently returned to New Zealand from Britain. He sings Lindy Lou for Weekly Review.

BANKS PENINSULA...AKAROA: In New Zealand’s early days, Akaroa was settled by colonists from France. The town still shows many signs of French influence. Akaroa used to be a busy whaling port and was Canterbury’s first flour milling and brewing centre. It is now a favoured holiday place and produces fruit, fish and fat stock as well as the Akaroa tweeds, well known in the clothing industry.
