The Uncertain Season is a pictorial essay by Shirley Maddock about spring – “anything from spring cleaning, spring onions, spring chickens to spring hats.”
Women model cocktail and evening wear; a visit to the local hardware shop where a young boy plays with newly hatched chickens; vegetables and flowers on display at green grocers; field of daffodils; new born lambs; pretty young women model 1960s chic spring hats; policemen on the beat; young couple walk hand in hand through park; large magnolia tree in bloom; children playing at beach; yachties tend to their boats; planting spring seeds; young lady walking through field of daffodils; spring blossoms.
“The pretty girls in those extraordinary examples of 1960s chic (made by a French milliner in Remuera called Yvette Tresor) were all broadcasting staff, typists, p.a.s. etc and we shot the sequence in the olive grove on One Tree HIll. The only professional ‘TV personality’ appearing was Alma Johnson, AKTV-2’s first woman continuity announcer.”
