000:16 KAPITI... SCIENTIST VISITS ISLAND: The director of the American Wilderness Society, Dr Murie and his son Donald, visit Kapiti Island. They are in New Zealand for the New Zealand America Fiordland expedition. Dr Murie finds a rock penguin and shows the island caretaker, Mr Lindsay, an interesting piece of seaweed.
002:36 WELLINGTON... CANADIAN FLAGS FOR SEA CADETS: Sea cadets hoist the colours at the home of the High Commissioner for Canada. Some of the boys will attend the first Empire Sea Cadets camp held in Canada in July. Mr RC Addision represents the New Zealand League.
003:14 christchurch... chalk works: Gelignite is used to blast chalk at New Zealand’s only operational chalk quarry in Oxford, North Canterbury. The chalk is broken up and bagged for transport to the refinery in Christchurch. Here it is dried in kilns. The quarry has the capacity to turn out 60 tons of chalk a week.
