HUNDRED MILE CYCLE RACE: Hundreds of competitors from throughout the Dominion take part in the premier Hundred Mile Cycle Race. Strong winds make the day a tough one. The course is from Palmerston North to Levin, Otaki and over the Paekakariki Hill to Wellington. The first man home was EJ Connor of Auckland in 5 hours - 14 minutes.
DISPLAY BY WELLINGTON EAST GIRLS’ COLLEGE: An outdoor physical education display is demonstrated by girls of the college. It highlights freedom of movement and exercises which assist in the training and development of young people for the future.
HASTINGS...SPRING SHOW: Up to 40,000 people attend the Hawkes Bay Show. Side shows galore amuse visitors while nearby farm equipment is on display. Show jumping and other events lead up to the final highlight of the day, the livestock parade.
HORSE BREEDING...STUD-FARMS IN THE WAIKATO: At the Alton Lodge Stud, Te Kauwhata, and a number of stud farms in the region, prize yearlings are paraded for the camera.
NEWS CLIPS...VARSITY BOAT RACE: Members of four universities carry their canoes from the Wellington boat sheds down to the water in preparation for the shield race. A haka is performed on the beach by one team and the race is won by Canterbury, 2nd Otago, 3rd Auckland , 4th Victoria.
NGARUAWAHIA REGATTA: A number of large waka take part in the waka races on the Waikato river. A group of Maori women perform on the barge; an aqua - plane exhibition; side shows and the waka-hurdling events.
OPEN-CAST COAL...PARLIAMENTARY PARTY VISITS THE WAIKATO: A Parliamentary party visits the model mining village in Benneydale. At the Kimihia open cast mine, contractors explain to the Prime Minister Mr Nash, the Minister of Mines and others, the operation of the mine.
INDUSTRY...MAKING WASHING MACHINES: Hot molten metal is the first step in the manufacture of washing machines. Craftsmen work constantly in this Auckland factory to keep up with the demand for washing machines. Once regarded as a luxury, they are becoming a necessity. The factory is the largest producer of washing machines in the British Empire turning out forty machines a day at a cost of under £50 each.
