NEW ZEALAND... ARMY TRADES TRAINING: Men and women are being trained for post war jobs by the Army Education And Welfare Service. During the Christmas holidays, women of the air force catch up on typing at Wellington Polytechnic. Men learn about radio and motor engineering - “the change from war to peace won’t find these men out of work.”

NEW CALEDONIA... FIRST NZ NURSES EMBARK FOR FORWARD AREA (Camera: US Army Signal Corps): “They’ll go anywhere they can help fighting men stay on their feet and keep on fighting.” New Zealand nurses are farewelled by Matron Horne for their journey to New Caledonia. A man helps one of the women with her pack; “Just like a woman with her hat, she has to make sure her pack’s on straight.”

TREASURY ISLAND PATROL (Camera: New Zealand Pacific Unit): New Zealand soldiers head into the jungle to “trump all the Jap’s tricks”. Shows grenades being thrown.
