000:00 WATER-SPEED “REDHEAD” BETTERS 100 m.p.h: At Evans Bay, Wellington, the 2 1/2 ton speed-boat Redhead prepares for a trial run. Owner Len Southward is testing new propellers to raise the Australasian speed record. On the big day Redhead breaks the New Zealand and Australian water speed record, averaging 101.25 miles per hour. Len Southward was the first man to beat the 100 mph record on water.

002:24 WAIPOUA IS A FOREST SANCTUARY: The last kauri forest of any substantial size, in Waipoua, Hokianga, was recently proclaimed a sanctuary. The Minister of Forests, Mr E B Corbett attends a meeting of the Waipoua Advisory Committee and acknowledges that the 200 acres set aside 40 years prior, by the Royal Commission, will now become 22,5000 acres. The 1200 year old kauri Tane Mahuta, with a crown spread of 12000 feet, grows within the sanctuary.
