WELLINGTON - THE HERCULES ARRIVE: Three Hercules transporters, valued at £4,000,000 arrive at Wellington’s Rongotai Airport. Apart from stops in Hawaii and Fiji, the flight took 31 hours from the USA. New Zealand is the first nation to take delivery of the Lockheeds, the latest model of the Hercules C1 30. These aircraft are the first long range transporters for the RNZAF in 13 years. An official welcome awaits the 21 New Zealanders on board and Wing Commander BA Wood meets the Prime Minister, Mr Holyoake and introduces the crew who will fly the Hercules. New Zealand’s future in aviation is discussed by the Minister of Defence, Mr Ayre, the American Ambassador, Mr Powell and Air Vice Marshall I G Robinson.

WIRI - ALUMINIUM MILL: At Wiri, near Auckland, a new £3000,000 processing plant which opened in 1961, converts raw ingots imported from Canada into aluminium alloys. The process of aluminium production is shown.

WAITOTARA - BIG CHOP ‘N BURN: North of Wanganui, lies the rugged Waitotara Valley. Alan Anderson and Bob Marshall, two ambitious young 20 year olds, came to the area intent on turning this pioneer country into productive farmland. In four years and under primitive conditions, 350 acres of abandoned land was recovered by burning and scrub cutting.
