A social worker visiting a Samoan family - the Tagitau family to discuss their son [Sion] who is in a Boys’ Home. [Sion] has broken a leg and is in Ward 6 at Grafton Rd, Auckland Hospital. The social worker’s manner in discussing the issue is rushed and business-like. The Samoan family isn’t given the opportunity to express their hospitality or concerns, let alone allow for the visitor to develop an understanding of some of their protocol.
This film highlights the specifics of where and how the visit should have been handled differently and a briefing on the vowels and pronunciation of the Samoan language was also illustrated.
