The Child Poverty Action Group are questioning if the Government's 3 year targets to reduce child poverty go far enough. Jacinda Ardern announced the targets yesterday at a press conference which aim to alleviate child poverty amongst 160,000 children by raising the income of their whanau. The Families Package should see another $75 dollars week given to 384,000 families from the 1st of July, but the Child Poverty Action Group says that is still not enough. Jacinda Ardern is still supporting Clare Curran and her actions as the Minister for Broadcasting. Carol HIrschfeld was forced to resign from Radio New Zealand after texts of her arranging a meeting with Curran were released, and the subsequent revelation she had misled her Manager. Traffic is moving again on State Highway 1 near Pukenui after the road was washed out by heavy flooding. Locals are questioning the time it took for local authorities to respond and say the issue with drainage under the road was known about previously. Imports and exports to Papua New Guinea, our second largest Pacific export market, remain cut off after a series of earthquakes damaged airstrips and runways. Māori Television is celebrating its fourtenth year of broadcasting with a welcomes for its fifth CEO Keith Ikin at Manurewa Marae. He reitierated the stations commitment to revitalise Māori language and practice and represent Māori. Joelle King is preparing for her third Commonwealth Games and hopes to add to her medal tally. The squash player is currently ranked number 7 in the world and has joined the New Zealand squash team in preparing over the last 12 weeks. The Silver Ferns have confirmed that Kayla Cullen has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games team due to a knee injury. Calire Kersten will be replacing her as defender on the team.  

A former Silver Fern is cautioning the Netball New Zealand that players may head offshore unless they address criticism of their performance. Spark and Television New Zealand may be the preferred bidders for the rights to next years Rugby World Cup being held in Japan. No confirmation has been issued regarding this, but it could mean free to air broadcasts of the matches by TVNZ.
