This is a compilation of news and information relating to the activities of the Rotaract Rarotonga club of the Cook Islands during 2005, some of which was broadcast on the Cook Islands Television News.

Rotaract has presented entry and exit signs to St Joseph’s school in an effort to reduce danger at the school gates. Puna Dyer, President PTA, St Joseph’s School Committee. Sheena Tavioni, Vice President Rotaract Rarotonga.

Joan Pito who has been living in a tent since her house was destroyed by a falling tree during a hurricane. Rotaract and the Red Cross are about to embark on the construction of a new home for Pito. Niki Rattle, Secretary General Cook Islands Red Cross. Joan Pito.

Akarango I te mapu is an event focused on raising the voice of youth and providing role models for younger people. Rotaract are organising the event which will see Jeremy Goodwin and Deyna Marsh speaking and are looking for guest speakers for future events. Akaau Nicholas, Rotaract Rarotonga .

The inaugural Akarango I te matu event was well attended and Jeremy Goodwin and Deyna Marsh were well received. Rotaract will be staging another youth event and thank their sponsors. Sheena Tavioni, Vice-President, Rotaract.

The Cook Islands police are surveying people ahead of developing their strategic plan and have asked Rotaract to assist in conducting the survey. Inspector Patia, Police. Julie Taripo, Community Services Director Rotaract.

Rotaract have presented cheques to the Red Cross and the Disability Action Team. A family will be using their donation to attend a special needs conference and the Red Cross will be using the money to assist Joan Pito in rebuilding her home. Rotaract will be holding the “Xmas in the Park” event in December with all the funds raised from the event going towards the prevention of youth suicide.
