The story of the Royal New Zealand Navy’s ship Arbutus, and her cruise among New Zealand’s island territories. The islands are spread over an area of nearly a million square miles in the south-west Pacific.
On the journey, Arbutus takes Pacific Island officials to the southern and northern Cook groups and to the Tokelau Islands. The voyage takes three months.
Scenes of native sports and dances, the administration services and the everyday life of the islanders are shown.
The ship New Golden Hind collects copra from the islands. Administration staff from Samoa look after the Tokelaus for the New Zealand government. The leader of the party is Colonel Volkner, an administrator from Western Samoa.
