1:26:42 PACIFIC LINK: NEW AIR SERVICE - MELB. TO FIJI
Scenes of Qantas Airline’s inaugural flight between Australia and Fiji from Essendon Airport, Melbourne. Guests attending the ceremony listen to speeches from a dais set up on the tarmac. Official guests board the plane, including Movietone commentator Jack Davey, and aviators Scotty Allen and Sir Hudson Fysh. On board, Jack Davey changes into a Santa Claus outift and leaves the aircraft at Auckland, New Zealand to hand gifts to disabled children waiting to greet him. Jack Davey’s father is shown waiting at the airport. Father Christmas carrying a large bag of gifts is later seen handing them out to children. The airplane lands at Fiji airport and Santa hands out presents to the Fijian children awaiting him there.
