Over 300 tangata whenua representing Te-Whānau-o-Tāmaki-Makaurau, pōwhiri 22 Māori and 10 Polynesian groups to the 6th Polynesian Festival in Auckland. 14 marae will host manuhiri during the 3 day event. The Cook Island group Aitutaki Enua will host manuhiri from the South Island.
Several people interviewed during the Festival include: John Rangihau, Te Kumeroa Ngoingoi Pēwhairangi, Hori Brennan, Kōhine Ponika and Muru Walters.
Winners of the Festival were: 1st Taniwharau, 2nd Auckland Anglican Māori Club, 3rd Te Roopu Manutaki.
