MARINE.... STREAMLINED SHIP: On its maiden voyage the 12,000 ton cargo ship Port Auckland sails into Wellington harbour. One of the most expensive cargo ships ever built, the vessel is equipped for refrigerated cargo, as well as providing accommodation for 12 passengers. Shows passengers’ quarters and deck.

NEW PLYMOUTH .... MISS NEW ZEALAND IN HOME TOWN: Miss Mary Woodward - Miss New Zealand, 1949 returns home to New Plymouth. She is driven through the streets in a convertible and the Mayor welcomes her home. Miss Woodward then flies off to Great Britain from Bell Block Aerodrome.

AIR FORCE STATION .... TRAINEES AT HOBSONVILLE: Hobsonville Air Station is New Zealand’s only sea plane base and the site for initial trade training of Air Force recruits. Future flight mechanics, fitters, engine mechanics and flight engineers learn their trades. Housing for the recruits and their families is provided nearby . Children catch the school bus and their mothers buy vegetables from a visiting truck. The wives play netball while the men box, play rugby, row and sail. A sea rescue plane returns from Fiji.
