Documentary that follows James Siers journey from the Gilbert Islands to Fiji in his attempt to show that Polynesians had the technology and know-how to voyage and colonise the Pacific. Built in the village of Taratai in the Gilberts a canoe is built for the journey. The film explains the anthropological hypotheses behind the planned journey and the technology of the Gilbertese canoes. Follows the project from planning, construction, trialing and finally the realisation of the voyage and the team’s arrival in Fiji.
