News Summary.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Vancouver has ruled that Fiji is no longer a member. New Zealand and Australia have urged strongly for its membership to lapse until a democratic Government is installed there. Speaker: David Lange (Prime Minister).

While there may have been some consensus on Fiji at the meeting there was strong disagreement on the issue of sanctions against South Africa. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher stood firm alone against the wishes of the rest of the Commonwealth.
