News summary.

Cabinet Ministers faced an aggressive and at times openly hostile audience today while defending their handling of the economy at the Labour Party’s Annual Conference. The Associate Minister of State Owned Enterprises Peter Neilsen was booed and hissed by delegates unhappy about Post Office closures, but Finance Minister Roger Douglas hit back. He accused critics of “bumper sticker mentality” and says he won’t alter his course one iota.

Hospitals around the country are likely to be seriously disrupted this week as domestic staff take industrial action. Bans will be enforced at some hospitals from midnight. Unions want all domestic staff placed under the same award, irrespective of workplace. Speakers: John Rennie (Wellington Hospital Board).
