Health Minister David Caygill has declined to comment on last night’s Eyewitness programme which raised concerns about the safety of patients in Auckland’s Carrington Hospital in the Maori health unit. Meanwhile, more information has been given to Eyewitness News regarding the beating of patients. An $85 million protection package will prop up the Marsden Point Refinery over the next three years. The Government says it has to pay out if the refinery is to survive when the oil industry is deregulated from Monday. Few involved in the business however believe motorists will see cheaper petrol.
