The price of petrol is expected to rise tonight. Twice the oil industry has asked the Government for an increase. The first time it asked for 9c a litre, the second 15c. Industry sources say those requests have finally brought results, though they won’t be getting the full 15c they wanted.
At Parliament the Opposition has failed in a bid to get the Maori Affairs Minister brought before the Privileges Committee. The Speaker of the House has ruled that Koro Wetere has no case to answer. That’s despite Opposition claims that he deliberately misled Parliament in statements about a possible trip to Hawaii in the wake of the Maori loans affair. An Auckland bank was robbed of about $3000 this afternoon.
There’s been yet another building site crane accident in Auckland. Two men narrowly escaped death when a crane knocked a safety rail 14 floors to the ground. A controversial boxing match in South Auckland between a white South African and a Fijian has been cancelled by Police. Promotion of the match had racial overtones and had been billed as “Rambo versus Sambo”.
