This part of the documentary continues after Nga Kawe Mate documentary. However its main focus is on Coronation day the 23rd of May 2006. This is the day 40 years ago the year 1966 that Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu became Queen of the Maori people. She was crowned by the Tumuaki o Te Kiingitanga Wiremu Tarapipipi who placed a bible on her head and was anointed with oil by Cannon Wi Huata. The tribes of New Zealand selected her to replace her father King Koroki. It was Tainui Kauāatua Hēnare Tūwhāngai who asked the people assembled what shall we call her? They all replied Kuini (Queen). Piki as she was known then reluctantly agreed to be called (Queen) as she preferred to be called Te Arikinui.
This year’s Coronation 2006 is over a period of seven days - three days of Kawe Mate followed by sports, Kapa Haka, Waka Taua display on the Waikato river leading up to the main fixture, Coronation day, which culminates with the Ruby Jubilee Karakia Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service followed by speeches given by the Motu, Pacific, European and World tributes and her Jubilee Address. Finally the Waka Taua Parade and Ruby Jubilee address.
Waka Huia will try and cover most events but its main focus is the Kawe Mate and Coronation day 2006." TVNZ; tvnz.co.nz; 03/10/2006
